Intro to GED-i - Orientation - Introduction

Let’s begin by exploring the situations of two potential GED-i Online learners, Cassie and Hector.

young girl

Cassie is 18 years old and wants to take her GED exam.  She isn’t sure how to get ready for the test or how to find a GED program in her area.  She was exploring the Internet when she came across GED-i Online.  This site looked interesting.  Cassie can prepare for her GED at home, but she has never taken an online class before. Cassie has the following questions.

  • Will GED-i Online work for her?
  • What does she need to know before taking the GED Online course?
  •  Who does she need to contact to register for the course?

Hector is working full time at a factory.  He wants to get a better job, but his work schedule conflicts with the times that GED classes are offered at the local community college. Hector learned about GED-i Online from some of his friends. It sounds like something he wants to try, but he doesn’t know how much time it will take each week. Although Hector is very good at math, he struggles with reading. He has some basic computer skills, but isn’t sure if knows enough to be successful in an online learning program.  Hector has the following questions.
  • Will he be able find the time to work on GED-i Online?
  • What computer skills will he need?
  • Will he be working with a teacher?
  • What will the lessons be like?

Like many adult learners, Hector and Cassie have some very good questions about the GED-i Online. In this virtual tour, these questions will be answered.  In addition, you will explore the tools, lessons, and resources available from GED-i, and learn strategies for being a successful online student.  At the end of each section there is a Provider Locator through which you can find an adult education provider close to you.
